Gadi inspects Ita-B’dewa road

ITANAGAR, June 08: PWD Minister Gojen Gadi, accompanied by Chief Engineer, Highway (WZ) Hage Appa and his team of officers, inspected the Itanagar to Banderdewa NH-52A Road today.

The Minister personally verified the damages occurred at various locations along the road and directed the officer concerned to be extra-cautious in dealing with the damaged roads and prevent further damage by clearing the debris and the chocked culverts etc to ensure free movement of traffic throughout the year.

He assured the CE to move the central government for allocation of fund for maintenance of the highway. He also informed that he would pursue with central government regarding four-laning of the highway (from Itanagar to Banderdewa) which is pending at Ministry of Road Transport and Highway.

DA’s bid to ease traffic congestion

ITANAGAR, June 08: In a bid to ease growing traffic congestion in Capital Complex, the capital administration (DA) along with police department and district transport officer yesterday launched a joint traffic regulation-cum-enforcement drive.

The drive is being carried under the supervision of Chief Estate Officer-cum-Additional District Magistrate Talo Potom from 9 am to 4.30 pm everyday and will continue until further order.

During the drive, special checking will be conducted to check and verify wrong parking, defected vehicles, valid documents, overtaking and over speeding and violation of traffic rules. Any vehicle found violating the traffic rules would be dealt strictly, including seizure and impounding of vehicles, according to an official release.

The district administration appealed to all to cooperate with the authority.

Saaya’s appointment as Parl Secy (Home) welcomed

ITANAGAR, June 08: Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (RHEP) Affected People’s Forum has welcomed the appointment of Yachuli MLA Likha Saaya as parliamentary secretary (Home) with additional charge of Sports and Youth Affairs.

In a release, Taba Sanka, General Secretary of the Forum expressed the hope that Saaya will do justice to his new role and emerge as an able administrator.

“Lower Subansiri district has been neglected for quite long time with no MLAs getting ministry berth. But, present government has handed over an important portfolio of home, sports and youths affairs to people’s representative of 16 -Yachuli Saaya, who won election for second consecutive time.

“We hope Chief Minister Nabam Tuki will continue to support all the developmental activities initiated by our MLA,” stated Sanka.

“We the project affected people are also pinning hope on the new parliamentary secretary that he will pressurize NEEPCO to fulfill all the promises made during series of meetings held between NEEPCO officials and project affected people,” he added.

Byaling writes to Assam CM

ITANAGAR, June 08: Home Minister Tanga Byaling has written to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to conduct a thorough inquiry into death of Tashi Phuntsu, who was found hanging in his room at City Cozy Boys Hostel, Guwahati on May 31.

Byaling wrote the letter to Gogoi, who holds the Home department, a day after this daily carried a news item on recovery of a suicide note left by Tashi, in which he accused one “Borali Sir” and “New Manager” of harassing him.

Tashi was a student of CIPET, Guwahati.

Onyong Tondrang, ex-HGB of Tuting, dies at 104

ITANAGAR, June 08: Former Head Gaon Bura (HGB) of Tuting Onyong Tondrang died at the age of 104 years today.

He is survived by two sons and seven grandchildren.

Tondrang played a crucial role during Chinese aggression in 1962 . He was also instrumental in establishment of Tuting Township. He was awarded two silver and as many bronze medals by the Government of India in recognition of his meritorious service and contribution towards the society. He served as group leader, home guard and was also vice president of Tuting Anchal Samiti.

Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) conferred commendation certificate to Tondrang in recognition of his immense contribution for development of Adi society.

ABK in a condolence meeting today observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to late Tondrang and prayed to almighty to rest his departed soul in eternal peace.

APCYGTSU extends support to ANSU

ITANAGAR, June 08: All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte & Tarak- Langdi Students’ Union (APCYGTSU) has extended support to All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) in its fight against anomalies in government machineries.

ANSU has been demanding for termination of all the officials involved in the alleged mismanagement of ST girls’ hostel of various Middle schools in Palin circle under Kurung Kumey District.

Fire devastates RCC building

ITANAGAR, June 08: One RCC building belonging to one Neelam Kecha of Deed village under Pistana circle of Lower Subansiri district was gutted in a devastating fire that broke out in the wee hours of June 6. The building comprised of two grocery shops and two hotels which were totally devastated.

Properties worth Rs 20 lakhs were lost in the fire, Pistana Anchal Chairperson Toko Yuch, who rushed to the spot, informed.

CO Gyamar Amte along with a team of police also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Cleanliness drive

ITANAGAR, June 08: Hundreds of youths and senior citizens of Nirjuli came out voluntarily to streets to participate in the ongoing weeklong cleanliness drive organized by Itanagar Municipal Council to give a better look to the Itanagar Capital Complex, informed Tarh Nachung, Member, Empowered Standing Committee and in-charge of Sanitation under Itanagar Municipal Council.

Besides dumpers of the IMC commercial trucks were engaged to lift the garbage during the cleanliness drive.

The drive would continue until June 10, Nachung informed, adding that similar cleanliness drive would be organized at Naharlagun on June 9 and Itanagar on June 10.

He requested all the citizens of the Itanagar Capital Complex to participate in the cleanliness drive to make the Capital a cleaner and greener city.

Raga MLA meets DC, HoDs

ITANAGAR, June 08: newly elected MLA of Raga constituency Tamar Murtem had an interaction cum coordination meeting with the DC and HoDs of Lower Subansiri district at Ziro on June 6 last.

In the meeting, Murtem highlighted various issues such as better road connectivity, improved electricity and water supply, improvement in health and education sectors and peaceful law and order situation in the constituency.

He urged the department heads to work honestly and sincerely for development of the area. He sought cooperation from them to carry out developmental activities smoothly in his constituency.

State Police nab 4 NSCN (U) cadres,recover huge cache of arms & ammo

ITANAGAR, June 08: Security forces and State Police achieved a major success when they nabbed four hardcore NSCN (U) cadres from Tirap on June six and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession.

Following tip off, a joint team of security forces and police under the leadership of Tirap Superintendent of Police Dr. Ajit Kumar Singla and CO, 1st Assam Rifles Prashant Nair launched a coordinated operation in the jungle near Pansumthong village area under Tirap district. They then cordoned off the suspected hideouts and carried out the operation in the wee hours and succeeded in apprehending the four NSCN(U) cadres, informed AIGP (Establishment) Tusar Taba.

The cadres are identified as Ahon Honwang Josak alias Srgt Major Ahon of Thinsa village, Tirap, S Vito Awomi of Majito village, Dimapur, Nagaland, Lonwang H Lowang and Lokwang Khete of Borduria village of Tirap district.

On being verbally challenged, the NSCN (U) cadres opened fire on the security forces. One NSCN cadre sustained bullet injury in the retaliatory fire by security forces. Later, he was evacuated to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh for treatment, Taba informed.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition and incriminating materials were also recovered from their possession which include one Italy made 7.65mm pistol with magazine, one US made 7.65mm automatic pistol with magazine, two Chinese made .22mm automatic pistol with magazine, two USA made M 20 automatic pistol with magazine, one country made Hammer Action with magazine, one 9 mm carbine with magazine, one .177 Air Rifle with Magazine, one AK-47 rifle, huge quantities of live cartridge, one Chinese made hand grenade, one 7.65 mm FCC, one 12 Bore FCC, one Binocular, one Dagger, four mobile phones, two solar battery chargers, two wallets, cash Rs 2160, five combat pouch, one pair of combat uniform, for pairs of combat vests, two holsters, five Baret caps, one ammunition pouch, two carry backpack bags, one set of FDD Kit, 470 chloroquine tablets.

A case has been registered against the culprits Under Section 307/121//120B/384/34 IPC read with section 25(1A)/27 Arms Act at Khonsa Police Station.

The DGP personally monitored the entire operation. He congratulated all the team members for showing exemplary courage in nabbing the militants. He exhorted them to continue such concerted efforts to eradicate anti-social elements from the state to instill a sense of security among the common masses.

It is pertaining to mention here that DGP Nithianandam held a series of coordination meetings with the security forces deployed in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts during his visit to those district from June 4 to 7 and emphasised on coordinated efforts by security forces and state police to make the area free from anti-social/UG elements.

AIFF conducts seminar on centralized registration system

ITANAGAR, June 08: A Seminar on ‘Centralized Registration System” for football clubs affiliated to Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) was held at Naharlagun today. The seminar was conducted by Sujesh Rajan, Senior Manager, Registration Department of All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Sankalp Pujari.

Representatives from five football clubs, namely Todo United, Gora Makik Sporting Club, Tagung Neri Sporting Club, Gangte Tugung Sporting Club and Niba Sporting Club attended the seminar.

The main objective of the seminar was to educate the clubs about the process of registration, documents required for registration, the mandatory documents required for the transfer and registration and overall club management.

Rajan informed that AIFF is keen on creating a centralized database of all players where the career history of players will be on display. The system is being implemented to curb age fraud and to make domestic transfers more systematic and foolproof, he said.

He also said that this online registration system will help the clubs in verification of the player’s age, history. Every player would be provided an ID which would eradicate all malpractices involved in the system, he said.

APFA general secretary Geshi Doke and assistant general secretary Kipa Ajay also spoke and assured the AIFF officials to implement the system in letter and spirit. They requested the clubs/associations affiliated with APFA to take the matter seriously and cooperate with them in implementing the system for development of football in Arunachal Pradesh.

NEEPCO award to Arunachalee writers

ITANAGAR, June 08: Much to the delight of literary lovers of the state the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) today awarded Rs 1 lakh each to noted writers Tagang Taki of East Siang district and Wangsam Zongsam of Changlang under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme. The NEEPCO award which was instituted under the initiative of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), was handed over by NEEPCO manager RT Tara to both the writers during the monthly literary session of APLS-cum award giving ceremony held at Jawaharlal State Museum here.

Addressing the gathering, Tara lauded the APLS for promoting literature, creative writing and young talent since its inception in 2006 and for building the right image of Arunachal Pradesh by patronizing literature which is still in infancy in the state.

While wishing all success to the APLS in its endeavour, Tara said that NEEPCO, which has developed the 405 MW Ranganadi HEP, is now developing the 600 MW Kameng HEP and the 110 MW Pare HEP. It has also been contributing towards the state’s sustainable development though its corporate social responsibility schemes.

This year the NEEPCO offered annual scholarship to 25 meritorious students of its project areas – Rs 36,000 for professional courses and Rs 12,000 for general courses, he said, adding that any student securing 55% marks in final examinations may apply.

Recounting their struggles as writers, Taki and Zongsam thanked the NEEPCO for its gesture in recognizing their literary creativities.

Speaking on the occasion, APLS president YD Thongchi said NEEPCO’s financial aid would go a long way in promoting state’s literature, education and sports. He exhorted the NEEPCO to continue its gesture and sought financial help to promote the cause of the APLS.

Quoting Marathi saint Tukaram - Words are the only jewels that adore me, words are the only cloth that I wear, food that sustains me, words are the only wealth that I distribute to all - Thongchi said that writers are the worshipers of words. The APLS aims at creating such worshippers, besides projecting and honouring forgotten writers, as the civilization of human race is always measured by its literature, he said.

The function, also attended by APLS vice president Tage Tada, general secretary Tokong Pertin, and executive member Batem Pertin, along with actor-director Hage D Appa, among others, began with the recitation of a poem composed on the spot by APLS information secretary Pradeep Kumar – ‘Hey Arunachalees kahan ja rahe ho?’ – expressing anguish over the ongoing fight over land in the state.

Many a tiny tot recited their poems but he who surprised the gathering was child specialist Dr Takop Zirdo, who recited self-composed ‘Lwwnv Kaabv (Taarpu Lwwnv or Liine kaabe)’ and ‘Kaalww-Talww Nam Tvttv ’Bv (Kaali-Talii nam Tette Be)’. Dr Zirdo has also published a collection of Galo poems, ‘Mvii-momii’.

As usual, versatile Dr Pekba Ringu, APLS assistant secretary, thrilled all by his Assamese – ‘Akou Jadab Sharma,’ followed by journalist Mukul Pathak’s poem - Bomar babe ek bigyapan – expression of deep shock after bomb blast in Guwahati. Senior journalist Ranjit Sinha also recited a self-composed Assamese poem “Khabar” which received much acclaim from the audience.

Takpi Game, a Class XII (Sc) student, reflected the patriotism of Arunachalees in his Hindi poem – Is Desh ki Katha, before the enchanting voice of legendary singer Bengia Hemanto and Rajiv Panyang rent the air. Panyang can neither read nor write Assamese.

The house also deeply mourned the untimely death of state’s retired agriculture director and Donyi-Polo Mission secretary Tarun Kumar Bhattacharjee, who died in his Shillong residence on May 21 last, and observed two minutes silence to pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul. Besides writing a large number of widely acclaimed books on Arunachal’s people, culture, flora and fauna, Kumar after retirement was regularly contributing write-ups to various journals and newspapers.

Gadi inspects under construction Secretariat and Assembly buildings

ITANAGAR, June 08: Just few days after the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly visited the new MLA apartment and assembly building site, PWD Minister Gojen Gadi visited the new Secretariat and Assembly buildings yesterday.

He held meeting with the concern officers and officials of his department to take stock of the projects and activities being carried out by them.

The Chief Engineer, PWD, Katung Wahge and the Executive Engineer in-charge of work Ratu Techi briefed the ministers about the scope and progress of work.

Gadi inspected all the four blocks of new Secretariat building. Block No. 4 of the Secretariat complex has already been occupied and is operational. He further asked the official to ensure the handing over of Block No. 3 of the Secretariat building by August 15, 2014 and the Block No.1 and 2 by March 2015.

Later, the minister visited the new Assembly building site. He urged the officials to expedite the works of the project and assured all possible cooperation from his end for early completion of the prestigious project.

A power-point presentation on the progress and scope of the work was presented by Nabam Takar, Assistant Engineer in charge of the work. The project has been delayed for long and is tentatively scheduled to finish by March, 2015.

Meanwhile, Bishnu Prasad, General Manager of civil joint venture of M/s Reniya Enterprise lead partner and Lotus Construction Company Technical Partner, the construction agency of assembly building site, in a press release, claimed that PWD Minister Gadi during the visit has assured to provide necessary fund for early completion of the project. He also added that the minister gave assurance to take up the matter of revised estimate of the project due to cost escalation with the authorities concerned.

PPA questions appointment of Byaling as HM

ITANAGAR, June 08: The City Unit of People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has vehemently opposed the appointment of ‘inexperienced’ Tanga Byaling as state’s Home Minister (HM).

“Since the department of Home is one of the most important and vital departments, the person handling the department must be an experienced, educated and well versed with the state’s law and order situation,” PPA City Unit president Yangbiu Takik said in a release.

“By appointing inexperienced Byaling as Minister for Home, it seems, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki is not much concerned with the state’s law and order problems,” he said.

Besides Home, Byaling has been allocated the port folios of Power (electrical) and Non-conventional Energy Resources.

While demanding the chief minister to re-allocate the Home Department to an experienced and capable one, the PPA’s city unit president opined that allocation of portfolios should strictly be on the basis of his/her experience and capability but not on seniority basis.

CYO appeals to save IG Park

ITANAGAR, June 08: The Capital Youth Organization (CYO) has drawn attention of the concern department regarding massive land encroachment at Indira Gandhi Park which is an asset of Arunachal Pradesh. It has been observed that encroachment is going on unabated at the southern part of the park.

People are encroaching every bit of land even by breaking the boundary walls which is very disheartening, CYO stated in a release. The organization alleged that the authority is not taking any action against the encroachers.

The organization urged the authority concerned to look into the matter seriously and demanded for repairing of boundary wall at the earliest.

Further, the organization appealed to the department to evict the illegal settlement within the premises of Indira Gandhi Park and save the sanctity of the Park.

CYO also demanded installation sufficient street lights in the park informing that some anti-social elements are indulging in anti-social activities taking the advantage of darkness.
